Shimla, Himachal Pradesh – 22 May 2025: PNB MetLife India Insurance Company Limited (PNB MetLife), in its role as the IRDAI-appointed lead life insurer for Himachal Pradesh, is tasked with driving life insurance initiatives tailored to the state’s unique needs.

In furtherance of this goal, PNB MetLife jointly organized with IRDAI-appointed lead general insurer, Raheja QBE General Insurance, the inaugural State-Level Insurance Committee (SLIC) meeting in Himachal Pradesh, under the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India's (IRDAI) State Insurance Plan.

The meeting focused on strategies to enhance insurance penetration and awareness across the state, addressing protection gaps in both rural and urban regions, and outlined plans to leverage 1,638 branches of public sector banks, regional rural banks, and cooperative banks across the state. It also outlined the formation of 12 district level and 78 block level insurance committees, alongside localized marketing campaigns to drive adoption.

Mr. Vijay Wardhan, Special Secretary Finance to the Government of Himachal Pradesh & Chairperson of State Level Insurance Committee, Himachal Pradesh said “In a state like Himachal Pradesh, where insurance penetration stands at just 3.2%, it’s encouraging to see the organizers taking the initiative to raise awareness on the crucial issue. The state government sees this as a shared responsibility and will continue to offer active support and guidance to ensure all such efforts have a long-lasting impact in the state.”

In Himachal Pradesh, the company has initiated a series of efforts to engage the community and increase insurance awareness through initiatives like the School Connect Program, conducted across 20 schools in Una, Hamirpur, and Mandi districts to educate young students on the importance of insurance, and Bima Van activations that delivered insurance information directly to underserved communities. These initiatives are complemented by its strong partnerships with the state’s extensive banking infrastructure, especially with PNB Bank, to ensure last mile reach.
